Funeral Benefits

Family life cover available on the following basis (effective from 1 January 2007).

  Available upon the death of:
  Member R20 000
  Spouse R20 000
  Children 14 – 21 R20 000
  Children 6 – 13 R16 000
  Children 1 – 5 R12 000
  Children 0 – 11 months R  3 000
  Children Stillborn R  2 50


UPON DEATH OF A MEMBER THE POLICY BECOMES FULLY PAID AND COVERS UP TO THREE SPOUSES

CHILDREN UP OT 26 YEARS MAY BE COVERED PROVIDED THEY ARE STUDYING FULL-TIME.

Please note:

  1. Since funeral benefits are insured, the Board of Trustees is subject to the conditions of the policy for the payment of the benefit, therefore the submittance of any claim must occur immediately in the prescribed manner.

  2. Funeral benefit claims will not be considered after 6 months. 

FUNERAL BENEFIT CLAIM REQUIREMENTS

Please note that the Fund's auditors require the following documentation to be submitted with all death benefit claims.

The following documentation must be submitted:

  1. Originally certified copy of the deceased’s identity document or birth certificate
  2. Originally certified copy of the deceased’s death certificate
  3. Originally certified copy of the applicant's identity document
  4. Bank statement from applicant  stamped by your bank (confirmation of banking details)
  5. Originally certified copy of the witness's identity document
  6. Proof of marriage:
    Customary marriage - Letter from Tribal Chief confirming the marriage and lobola affidavit or registration of customary marriage
    Originally certified copy of legal marriage certificate

NB: In cases of the main member or spouse passing away documents 1 to 6 are required. In cases of a child passing away documents 1 to 5 are required

If any of the above-mentioned certificates are not immediately obtainable, the above-mentioned forms should nevertheless be completed and returned to the Fund as soon as possible, together with whatever certificates are available, and a letter indicating the steps taken to obtain the outstanding certificates.

All original documents submitted will be returned.
